Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six is a
classic Clancy-style story where you lead an elite multinational
task-force on a mission against terrorists. It's a first-person,
squad-based shooter game based on the Tom Clancy novel of the same name.
Game play is organized around a series of missions in which you must
execute precise assaults on terrorist installations. As your mission
advances, you will uncover a larger and more sinister conspiracy, where
the fate of the world hangs in the balance. And unlike other games, if
you make a mistake, you're gone--because in the real world, one shot
counts. To carry out a mission, the player must assemble a crack team of
three operatives from a pool of skilled specialists and choose your
insertion point. The player then leads the assault using a first-person,
three-dimensional view. With 14 different missions in real world
locations, the variety of gameplay is extensive. So carefully select
your team and remember, if you die, the game isn't over…the world is.
Players take control of one operative in an eight-man squad made up of
elite special force members from countries around the world. Just some
of the countries represented are the United States, Germany, Brazil,
Canada and England. This elite counter-terrorist ops team, known as
Rainbow Six, is kept secret through the skilled use of propaganda and
government cover-ups.
Before each of the 17 missions in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, you'll equip
your forces with realistic weaponry used to fight terrorism including
the Heckler & Koch MP-5 sub-machine gun, the M-16 for jungle combat, the
Benelli 12-Gauge tactical shotgun and a selection of explosive devices
like frag grenades and flash-bangs. Members available for teams have a
wide range of skills and players must carefully select the right team
for the job, as specific expertise is required for each mission.
Rainbow Six requires planning, training, patience and accuracy to
complete missions. The first three missions give you the option to
select a pre-designed plan but the remainder of the missions require you
to design a viable plan of action, choose the proper team members and
plan where, when and how units are to move.
The game supports 3Dfx acceleration and fluid controls as the player
steps through the exacting two phases of the game, planning and action.
Each member of the squad has specific strengths and weaknesses and there
is a vast array of combat accoutrements and kits focusing on such
elements as medical, forced entry, scouting, assault, reconnaissance and
weapon concerns.
